Notes on Project of Information System for Data Important Semantic Content
Nell'articolo l'A. esamina alcuni problemi relativi alla costruzione di sistemi informativi per dati a rilevante contenuto semantico, considerando in particolare l'esempio d'un sistema informativo sulle schede di catalogo dei beni artistici italiani. Illustrati gli aspetti di ricerca e di servizio insiti nel progetto d'un sistema di tal genere, l'A. analizza i problemi relativi alla conservazione e al reperimento delle informazioni che, attualmente contenute in schede di catalogo, verrebbero a costituire la base del sistema. Appartengono alla prima categoria i problemi derivanti dal fatto che, col passaggio da un sistema di gestione manuale a uno automatico, le informazioni contenute nelle schede di catalogo si rivelano insufficientemente strutturate o incomplete, oltre che, per alcuni aspetti, dipendenti dalle valutazioni soggettive del documentalista e dalle caratteristiche dell'oggetto; rientrano invece tra i problemi del reperimento quelli derivanti dalla diversificazione delle esigenze dell'utenza e dalla configurazione prescelta per i centri di documentazione. Secondo l'A. il sistema informativo dovrebbe essere costruito in modo da consentire l'introduzione progressiva di elementi di tipo semantico (di significato chiaro nello specifico campo applicativo prescelto) e di elementi di tipo pragmatico (relativi alla rappresentazione dell'utente della base di dati) e dovrebbe adottare soluzioni compatibili con l'acquisizione di capacità d'inferenza nereperimento dei dati e di capacità logiche nell'interfaccia con l'utente. Indicate alcune scelte circa le caratteristiche che il progetto di base di dati dovrebbe possedere, l'A. esamina le fasi di preanalisi, realizzazione e implementazione del progetto stesso sottolineandone la grande importanza per il nostro Paese dal punto di vista non solo scientifico, ma che anche culturale, sociale ed economico.
In the article the A. looks at some of the problems arising out of the construction of information system for data with an important semantic content, considering, in particular, the example of information system on catalogue cards of Italy's cultural assets. Having illustrated the research and service aspects inherent in a project for a system of this type, the A. analyses the problem relative to the storage and retrieval of information which, at present contained in the catalogue cards, would make up the base of such a system. Problems of the category derive from the fact that, with the passing from a manual management to an automatic system, the information contained in the catalogue cards proves to be insufficiently structured or incomplete apart from some other aspects, depending on the subjective evaluations of the documentalist and on the characteristics of the object. Problems of retrieval, instead, are those deriving from the diversification of the user needs and of the configuration chosen for the documentation centres. According to the A. the information system be must be built up in such a way as to allow for the progressive introduction of semantic-type elements (with clear meaning in the specific field of application chosen) and of pragmatic-type elements (relative to the predictable behaviour of the data base) and should adopt compatible solutions with the acquisition of the inference capacity in the logical capacity in the with the user. The A. after having indicated several possible choices concerning the characteristics which the project for the data base ought to posses examines the phases of pre-analysis, conceptual realization and implementation of the project itself, underlining its great importance for Italy not only scientifically but also culturally, socially and economically.
