Expected results

LOIS will create localized interlinked legal WordNets by adopting resources developed both in the main WordNet thread and in the context of EuroWordnet.

In particular:
1. The WordNets resulting from such projects cover the standard language. LOIS will extend them to the legal language by tracking the relations existing between common language synsets and legal jargon synsets. In this way it will be possible to achieve the result of mapping queries expressed in a non technical way onto effective queries to highly technical document bases.

2. EuroWordNet has created an impressive documentation concerning methods for developing multilingual ontologies in the WordNet framework. LOIS will use this documentation as the baseline for the localization plan. So, rather than inventing new methodologies the project will reuse what is already available by selecting the techniques which historically proved more reliable and adapting them into an optimised, quality controlled workplan.

3. Several organizations have produced software objects (in terms of interfaces, libraries, design diagrams, database descriptions, etc) aimed to provide an efficient an reliable WordNet management and integration.
LOIS will test and select the some of these tools and will integrate them both in the demonstrators and in the applications to be set up by industrial users (whenever such tools do not contrast with users’ software practices).
