Il progetto EURONET
The EURONET Project
Nel giugno del 1971 il Consiglio dei Ministri della Comunità europea ha approvato una risoluzione per l'incoraggiamento e il coordinamento delle attività degli Stati membri nel campo dell'informazione e della documentazione scientifica e tecnica. Tra le altre iniziative dirette a stimolare il progresso nel settore è stato deciso di realizzare una rete europea di trasmissione dei dati relativi appunto all'informazione e alla documentazione scientifica e tecnica, che consenta agli utenti di accedere mediante terminali alle basi di dati dei vari Paesi della Comunità. Il Comitato costituito allo scopo, dopo una ricerca durata circa tre anni, ha elaborato due piani triennali per il 1975-77 e il 1978-80. La rete di trasmissione di dati del progetto EURONET consiste attualmente di 4 nodi (network switching nodes) posti a Parigi, Londra, Francoforte e Roma e di 5 concentratori (remote concentrators) posti a Bruxelles, L'Aia, Dublino, Copenhagen e Lussemburgo. È prevista la realizzazione di tre principali servizi per gli utenti: un servizio di documentazione e una serie di corsi d'istruzione sull'EURONET e sulla possibilità da esso offerte; un programma di traduzione automatica delle lingue usate nelle varie banche di dati e infine uno studio per l'armonizzazione dei sistemi di ricerca. Le banche di dati della rete sono attualmente più di cento, divise in sei settori.
In June 1971 the Council of Ministers of the European Community approved a resolution for the encouragement and coordination of the activities of the member states in the field of scientific and technical documentation and information. Among other initiatives intended to stimulate progress in the sector in was decided to set up a European transmission network for data concerning this scientific and technical documentation and information which, by means of terminals, would allow access to data in the various countries of the Community. After about three years research the committee set up for the purpose drafted two triennial plans for 1975-1977 and 1978-1980. The data transmission network of the EURONET project at present consist of 4 network switching nodes located in Paris, London, Frankfurt and Rome, and 5 remote concentrators located in Brussels, the Hague, Dublin, Copenhagen and Luxembourg. Three main services for users are to be set up: a documentation service and a series of training courses on EURONET and on the possibilities it offers, an automatic translation programme of the language used in the various data banks and finally a study for harmonising research systems. There are at present more than a hundred data banks in the network, divided into six sectors.
